Barry Paul Show 7-5-16 (206) Barry Paul Music Chronicles Pendulum
Barry Paul puts aside his philosopher hat to put on his musician hat and talk to Nick Schultz, former Pendulum Bass Player to tell the story of the band. A band which Barry was also a founding member.
Pendulum RIP 1996
Sometime in 1996 I (Barry Paul) got a hold of a mixing board that allowed Barry and Pat Deal to record versions of a bunch of Pendulum tunes in slightly better quality than the usual boom box on the floor method. Unfortunately this was then recorded on a tape, so there will be some tape noise and like many of the Pendulum tapes, at least one member of the group is not present, this time being Nick Schultz, Pendulum's Bass player. https://archive.org/details/PendulumRIP
Pendulum Punks 1996
At some point in what I'm guessing is 1996 Nick Schultz and Pat Deal got together and recorded a very silly tape, that I think is one of the most entertaining recordings I've ever heard. Also throughout are bizarre keyboard instrumentals (some great, some awful) created by Pat Deal and Barry Paul on the same keyboard at once. Also found hidden at the ends of the sides of the original tape and placed randomly here, are a handful of rare Pat Deal songs (or maybe just song ideas) very much in the Pendulum vein. One of the strangest things about this tape has got to be that songs 38-66 are all short keyboard ditties, one after another creating a very interesting collage. Aside from Skullz, Candy Store and Johnny's Cashed most of this tape is just Pendulum improvising and having fun, fishing for ideas and recording just in case. Like most of the Pendulum recordings, this was recorded with just a cheap boom box on the floor onto a cassette, so it is what it is and I present it to you here for your entertainment and for archival preservation. https://archive.org/details/Pendulumpunks
Pendulum Live @ Steve's House Of Meat 1997
This performance, though captured on a boom box in 1997, recorded on a cheap cassette, has always been one of my favorites. The vocals don't come across very loud but the band is pretty tight for playing with a new drummer. That drummer was Maryland native, relocated to Minnnesota: Steve Moore. Nick Schultz plays bass, along with giving an absolutely epic vocal performance of his song "Johnny's Cashed". Pat Deal (Vocals, Guitar) was not present for this recording so this is a very "Barry Paul" heavy set, featuring a dozen original Barry Paul songs, along with a cover of Smashing Pumpkins "Where Boys Fear To Tread". I'm making this available for archival reasons. https://archive.org/details/Pendulumlivesteveshouseofmeat
